Similarweb Traffic Check
Check any website's traffic in Similarweb, read the numbers correctly and turn them into a quick traffic analysis of your competitors.
Enter a domain to open its free Similarweb overview, then use the guide below to understand what each metric means and where Similarweb data differs from your own analytics.
How to check traffic in Similarweb
- Open similarweb.com or use the check form above.
- Enter the domain without https:// or www, for example example.com.
- On the overview, read total visits, global, country and category rank, top countries and the marketing channels split.
- Repeat for three to five competitors so you have something to compare with.
The free overview covers recent months. For longer history, daily figures and keyword data you need a paid Similarweb plan.
Similarweb data: the metrics that matter
| Metric | What it shows | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Total visits | Estimated monthly visits to the domain | Small sites can be off in either direction |
| Global, country and category rank | Position compared with other sites | Moves when other sites change, not only you |
| Bounce rate | Share of single-page visits | Normal levels differ a lot by niche |
| Pages per visit | Average depth of a visit | One-page tools and landing pages are naturally low |
| Avg. visit duration | How long a visit lasts | Compare within your niche only |
| Traffic by country | Where visits come from | Defines which country rank you get |
| Marketing channels | Direct, search, referrals, social, email, display | Direct includes visits with a lost referrer – see Similarweb direct explained |
Similarweb traffic analysis of competitors
A quick analysis takes about fifteen minutes and gives you a realistic benchmark for your own site:
- Pick three to five real competitors – sites your partners would compare you with.
- Compare trends, not single months. Is their traffic rising, flat or seasonal?
- Note the country split. It tells you which markets they actually win.
- Compare channel mix. A competitor with a large direct share has strong brand recall; one living on search is exposed to Google updates.
- Find the gap. The difference between your figures and theirs is the target for your marketing – or for a campaign to increase Similarweb traffic.
Why Similarweb data differs from GA4
- Estimates vs measurement. GA4 counts visits on your site; Similarweb models them from its own data sources.
- Different definitions. Sessions, visits and users are counted differently by each tool.
- Filtering. Each tool filters bots and internal traffic in its own way.
- Domain variants. Traffic split between www and non-www, or subdomains, can show up differently.
- Site size. The smaller the site, the less data an estimate has to work with.
No data in Similarweb? What to check
Domain spelling
Check the exact domain and try both the www and non-www version.
Redirects and canonicals
Make sure all variants point to one main domain.
A recent domain move
After a migration, history stays with the old domain for a while.
Not enough traffic
If the site is simply too small, it needs more steady volume. That's what our Similarweb traffic service is for.

Similarweb traffic check: FAQ
Is the Similarweb traffic check free?
Yes, Similarweb's public website overview is free and shows the main figures: total visits, rank, top countries and channels. Longer history, daily data and deeper reports require a paid plan.
How accurate is Similarweb data?
It is an estimate. For large sites it is usually close to reality; for small sites it can be off in either direction. Use it to compare sites with each other and to follow trends, not as a replacement for your own analytics.
How often is Similarweb data updated?
Similarweb refreshes its data on its own schedule. In the free overview, figures are shown by month, so most changes become visible after a month closes. Paid plans offer more frequent data.
Can I check the traffic of any website?
You can look up any domain, but Similarweb only shows figures for sites it has enough data on. Small or very new sites may show no data or rough numbers.
